Every experience I have had at Liverpool House and Joe Beef has been incredible. Co-owned by David McMillan and Fred Morin, these two restaurants are side-by side on Notre Dame street in the St. Henri district of Montreal. The vibe is casual yet trendy. The food is very gourmet, using the freshest ingredients in new and innovative ways. The chinaware is often mismatched and antique. It is as if you are sitting in a cool country house.
Both restaurants do not have a permanent menu, nor individual menus. Instead, there is a large chalkboard listing the days specials. Each diner must go up to the chalkboard to read the menu. One meal that is permanent on the menu is their lobster pasta. The lobster is cooked in a cream sauce with bacon and peas and served over spaghetti. It is one of the best things I've ever eaten.
Liverpool is extremely accommodating to persons with allergies. They have assured me time and again that everything is safe for me to eat. At Joe Beef, the chef himself suffers from a peanut allergy. Therefore, there are no peanuts present in that kitchen at all. This is very comforting.

For my main dish, I had one of the most innovative meals I have ever had. The pasta was cavatelli (a personal favorite) served with a rich tomato-based duck ragu sauce. I have recently discovered duck and am in love with it. To top it all off was a fried egg! The runny yolk was the perfect accompaniment to the pasta.
